What is Reiki?
Reiki is a system of natural healing which is thousands of years old. It is believed that the technique was first used by Tibetan Buddist monks then rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui in the 19th. century.
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy. Rei is Universal, Ki is Life Energy. The Sanskrit version is Prana. In China it is called Chi. In Hawai it is Mana. It is something that has been identified in all cultures. It is the vital force that that flows through all matter and animates all life. This can be used as a powerful form of healing called Reiki.
Reiki is not a faith system, all that is required is the willingness to heal and be healed for the highest good of ourselves and others.
The Usui method of Reiki is a safe, gentle and non-intrusive healing technique. The Reiki therapist channels the life energy, through his or her hands into the receiver's body. This enhances the body's own natural ability to heal itself. The therapists hands are placed in specific positions and held still, there is no pressure or manipulation and the recipient receives Reiki either lying or sitting, there is no need for any special form of dress. In general, the receiver will experience a pleasant sensation of warmth or occasionally coldness in the area being treated.
I incorporate Chakra balancing and working with Crystals with my Reiki sessions as well as the healing vibrations of live Harp music. This unusual combination creates a very soothing and healing environment.
